Greyparrot Secures $27M Series B Funding to Scale AI Waste Intelligence for the Circular Economy

Greyparrot, a pioneering AI waste intelligence company, has successfully closed a $27 million (£20M / €23M) Series B funding round. The investment, led by technology investor Omar Mir, arrives on the heels of a major operational milestone: the company’s artificial intelligence has officially detected more than one trillion waste objects. Armed with this new capital, Greyparrot plans to rapidly scale its technology globally with the ambitious goal of abating over one million tonnes of waste by 2030, fundamentally transforming secondary materials into measurable, recoverable, and investable assets.

AI Waste Intelligence Becomes Critical Infrastructure

The recent funding comes at a critical juncture as the waste management and packaging sectors face mounting global pressure to enhance material recovery, prove regulatory compliance, and provide highly reliable data on material flows. Greyparrot’s solution centers on its AI camera systems, known as Analyzers. Installed directly above sorting belts in recycling facilities across more than 20 countries, these systems identify specific materials, products, and brands in real time. This continuous data stream provides operators with precise, shift-by-shift visibility into the composition and physical movement of waste passing through their facilities.

Measurable Efficiency Gains and High ROI for Facilities

Greyparrot’s innovation is delivering substantial operational profitability for recycling plants. The technology is currently utilized by major waste and recycling corporations including WM, Circular Services, Veolia, Biffa, and FCC. By replacing occasional manual sampling with continuous, real-time AI visibility, operators can significantly improve material yield, strengthen their auditing capabilities, and better prepare for waste-stream changes driven by new regulations. Facilities deploying Greyparrot’s real-time data have reported impressive efficiency gains ranging from 10% to 30%, with one specific site recording savings of more than £1.5 million in a single year.

Brands and Regulators Rely on Verified Data

Beyond waste management operators, global brands are leveraging Greyparrot’s verified data to understand the post-disposal lifecycle of their packaging. Major consumer goods companies, including Unilever, L’Oréal, and Kenvue, utilize Greyparrot’s Deepnest platform. The insights gathered help these corporations inform packaging redesigns and manage their exposure to fees under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Regulators are also beginning to integrate this high-fidelity data into official frameworks. In a landmark move for the United Kingdom, the Environment Agency accepted AI-derived waste composition data from Greyparrot for statutory compliance reporting in the first quarter of 2026, utilizing submissions from customers Biffa and FCC.

Unlocking Billions in Untapped Secondary Materials

The sheer scale of the global waste problem highlights the necessity of this technology. Out of the world’s estimated 2.3 billion tonnes of annual solid waste, less than 0.1% is currently audited. This massive data gap leaves facility operators, brands, and policymakers with limited visibility regarding where valuable materials are lost in the system. Research from Pew and Systemiq estimates that between $80 billion and $120 billion in plastic value is lost annually through inefficient linear systems.

Greyparrot’s waste intelligence translates these massive, opaque material flows into actionable data. Drawing from its network of over one trillion detections, the materials identified by Greyparrot Analyzers represent an estimated $2.5 billion in recoverable value. This identified volume includes 17.4 billion PET bottles—enough material to circle the Earth more than ten times—and 4.2 billion aluminum items, a highly valuable metal that can be recycled using up to 95% less energy compared to producing it from raw materials.

Pricing Waste as an Independent Asset Class

The urgency for resource recovery is underscored by the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2026, which identifies confrontation over natural resources as a top global risk for the next two years, and resource shortages as one of the most severe threats of the decade. Yet, financial markets cannot invest in assets they cannot quantify.

The $27 million Series B funding will scale the intelligence layer necessary to allow the market to finally price and back secondary materials as a distinct asset class. The capital will specifically drive rapid expansion across North America and Europe, while growing the company’s AI, data science, and product teams.

As Ambarish Mitra, co-founder of Greyparrot, summarized: “Waste intelligence will do for materials what satellite data did for navigation. For decades, waste has been a blind spot. Nations compete for resources while burying and burning existing resources. What’s been missing is the ability to measure what they’re losing. Once you can measure a material, you can trade it and invest in it. That is when the circular economy stops being an ambition and becomes infrastructure.”
