★Mark us as a preferred sourceHaving obtained the necessary regulatory approvals, the trial operation of ALTEO Group’s newest DRS (Deposit Return System) waste processing facility in Kistarcsa has officially commenced. Thanks to this fully automated plant, equipped with the most advanced technology currently available in the country, the energy group is doubling its annual processing capacity for PET bottles and metal beverage cans collected through the domestic return system to 28,000 tons.
Doubling Domestic Processing Capacity
In connection with the mandatory domestic Deposit Return System (DRS), ALTEO Group is significantly increasing its processing volume of collected beverage packaging starting in the summer of 2026. The annual processing capacity of the newly constructed Kistarcsa plant, realized as part of this investment, reaches 14,000 tons. As a result, ALTEO Group’s total DRS waste processing capacity is set to double, reaching a combined total of 28,000 tons annually. This marks the second high-capacity processing line for the corporate group, following the successful commissioning of a technologically similar system at their Kőbánya site a year prior.
Hungary’s Most Modern DRS Waste Processing Plant in Kistarcsa
The new Kistarcsa facility plays a strategic role in operating the national mandatory return system. The investment was carried out at the Kistarcsa site of ALTEO Circular Ltd., a subsidiary of ALTEO Plc., while the construction was executed by FE-GROUP INVEST Plc., a member of ALTEO’s circular economy division.
On July 6, 2026, the Kistarcsa DRS waste processing plant received the essential regulatory permit required to conduct its activities, enabling the smooth launch of the facility’s trial operation. According to the issued announcement, this new processing center is currently Hungary’s most modern facility handling returned packaging. The Kistarcsa development, realized through close cooperation, further strengthens ALTEO’s circular economy business segment, which integrates and jointly manages the two companies.
Advancing the Circular Economy and Sustainability
Implemented as a key pillar of ALTEO Group’s intensive circular economy strategy, the fully automated technology guarantees the professional pre-treatment of collected beverage packaging. Through this innovative solution, the raw materials from the recovered PET bottles and metal cans are successfully reintroduced into the economic cycle.
By strictly adhering to the principles of the circular economy model, ALTEO’s new facility actively contributes to extending the lifecycle of packaging materials subject to product fees and ensures a much more efficient utilization of available resources. Furthermore, the Kistarcsa investment delivers direct and measurable environmental benefits to the region.
