President Ilham Aliyev Inspects New Fleet of Household Waste Collection Vehicles in Baku

On March 2, 2026, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the courtyard of the Baku Expo Center to personally inspect a newly manufactured fleet of household waste collection vehicles. Produced domestically on the order of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, these specialized trucks are set to modernize municipal waste management and improve public sanitation across dozens of regions in the country.

During the inspection, the head of state was thoroughly briefed on the specifics of the initiative by Rashad Ismayilov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, and Khanlar Fatiyev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ganja Automobile Plant, the facility responsible for manufacturing the fleet.

Project Capacity and Logistics: 70 Vehicles for 58 Regions

The official release details the significant scale of this environmental and municipal infrastructure project. The key quantitative data surrounding the new waste management fleet includes:

  • Fleet Size: A total of 70 municipal waste collection vehicles have been manufactured as part of this initiative.

  • Vehicle Capacity: Each individual truck boasts a collection capacity of 22 cubic meters, allowing for the efficient transport of large volumes of household waste.

  • National Distribution: The vehicles are planned to be distributed to and put into service across 58 cities and districts throughout Azerbaijan.

  • Dispatch Locations: The deployment of these municipal vehicles is being coordinated from two primary assembly sites: the courtyard of the Baku Expo Center and the courtyard of the automobile plant in Ganja.

Supporting Domestic Industry: The Ganja Automobile Plant

Beyond its environmental goals, the project underscores the Azerbaijani government’s reliance on and support for domestic industrial manufacturing. The Ganja Automobile Plant, which produced the 70-vehicle fleet, is a cornerstone of the country’s automotive sector with a deep historical background:

  • The foundation of the facility was laid in 1986 on the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

  • The plant officially began its production operations in 2004, following the direct instruction of President Ilham Aliyev.

  • Today, the facility serves as a major regional employer, currently maintaining a workforce of nearly 500 workers.

This collaboration between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and local manufacturing facilities highlights a dual strategy: upgrading the country’s municipal sanitation infrastructure while simultaneously sustaining local jobs and industrial output.
