About us
Don’t waste it! – News from the world of waste
Waste is not rubbish. It is not something to get rid of, but raw material, energy, jobs and business opportunity — simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. That idea launched the Don’t waste it! portal in 2013, and it still runs through everything published here.
Why we exist
Waste management in Hungary was for a long time a closed profession: decisions were made within the sector, and the news either stayed in trade journals or reached the wider public only as scandal. There was very little in between.
We fill that missing middle ground. We produce content that is precise enough for professionals and clear enough for everyone else — because the circular economy only works if it is understood not just by engineers and legislators, but also by the person taking the bin out in the morning.
What we cover
- Waste management — public services, collection, transport, treatment technologies, and developments in Hungary and abroad
- Circular economy — reuse, recycling, product design, extended producer responsibility
- Regulation — Hungarian and EU legislative changes, official decisions and funding schemes, translated into plain language
- Technology and innovation — new processes, waste-to-energy, separate collection solutions, digitalisation
- Environment and sustainability — climate protection, resource efficiency, illegal dumping, environmental education
- Awareness raising — good practice, community and school programmes, campaigns
The portal is available in both Hungarian and English, so international readers can follow what happens in Hungary, and solutions from abroad can be read in Hungarian.
The portal in numbers
- Around 20,000 active users read the portal each month
- More than 17,000 followers on our Facebook page
- Nearly 2,500 members in our own Facebook group, Kukázoo
- Running continuously since 2013
The Kukázoo group matters to us in particular: it is not a channel where we talk to readers, but a place where the profession and the public talk to each other — with questions, experience and, at times, heated debate. Many of our articles started there.
Who is behind the portal
Don’t waste it! was founded and is edited by Roland Ladányi, a chartered environmental engineer. With more than 25 years of professional experience — in executive roles across public waste services, recovery and energy, and seven years of university teaching — he brings a perspective grounded in the day-to-day reality of the sector: the technology, the economic constraints and the pitfalls of regulation alike.
The portal is published by enviLOVE Kft., a company working in environmental services and awareness raising.
How we work
We work from verified sources: news agency material, official and EU documents, and communications from professional organisations and companies. News and opinion are kept separate, and paid content is always marked. Editorial independence is not a slogan here — it is a condition of operation.
