The Romanian IZI collection system processed over one million deposit-return bottles and cans in a single month, marking a huge leap in the company’s history. The significance of this milestone is highlighted by the fact that it took the first six months of operation to collect the initial one million containers, a volume they now achieve monthly. The service collects PET bottles, glass bottles, and metal cans covered by Romania’s official deposit-return system (SGR).
How the Romanian IZI collection system Works and Its Advantages
Unlike traditional reverse vending machines (RVMs), where customers must insert bottles one by one, the Romanian IZI collection system offers a much faster and more convenient solution. Users can simply place all their empty containers into a single bag and leave it at one of the IZI collection points.
The process is entirely digital and automated. Customers simply scan a QR code via the IZI mobile application at the location, attach the automatically printed label to their bag full of bottles, and leave the package at the collection point. The deposit refunds are then transferred directly to the user’s linked bank card in approximately 24 hours.
Growing User Base and Impressive Statistical Data
The company currently operates 27 return centers across five Romanian cities: Iași, Botoșani, Suceava, Dumbrăveni, and Dorohoi. The number of registered users in the IZI application has doubled over the past four months, successfully reaching 24,000 registered customers.
The network now records more than 35,000 bag deposits every single month, which is exactly equivalent to the total number of deposits registered during the project’s entire first six months. The success of the service is also proven by high customer loyalty: data shows that 90% of people who used the system returned to make another deposit in subsequent months.
Future Expansion and Professional Feedback
Ștefan Parascanu, the founder of the company, highlighted the team’s performance and growing customer trust. “The fact that we managed to achieve in a single month the results previously recorded over six months is an important accomplishment for the team, but above all proof of the trust and validation received from our 24,000 users,” the founder stated. He added: “We understood that Romanians want to recycle, and when we offer them a clean, simple, and hassle-free tool, the response comes quickly and decisively.”
The company announced that it will continue expanding its network, although official details regarding future locations or a specific expansion timetable have not yet been provided.
