Telex: Hernádi also touched on MOHU in his statement

Zsolt Hernádi, Chairman and CEO of the Mol Group, also spoke about the operation of MOHU in an interview published on Telex on Thursday.

In the interview, he said the following about MOHU: he read in the Tisza Program that the concession needs to be reconsidered. “I rarely say that the EU’s ambitions are explicitly good in something, but when it comes to waste, I think they are good,” he added.

He continued by saying that without a concession, we have no chance of catching up with the other EU countries. The many long-standing players have undermined the system. This ended up costing a lot for the state, municipalities, and industrial producers, while many partial actors on the waste market did very well out of it.

He also stated that the recycling rate has increased by a few percentage points to 34 percent, and that they have finally managed to bring the landfilling rate below 50 percent in Hungary.

“There are good results, but I know we are still far from the finish line, which is why a 35-year term has been set for the concession, so that the system is not jerked around by current, short-term interests. And the price structure was established on the basis of previous reports. Now there will be a review,” he said.
